July 20
The CCMT met with little business to discuss. The Silent Auction has ended. Items that
were purchassed can be picked up at the church by winning bidders upon payment. Items that are for sale and
were not bid on may still be purchased through the Trustees, Dale Hatch and Don Yarnell.
The number of registrants for the dinner on July 25th has been finalized at 91.
The closing date of the sale of the building is July 30th.
June 8, 2010
The CCMT met on June 8 and made some significant decisions.
The first was to accept the Pastor’s resignation, effective August 7, 2010. The Pastor
has received a call to First Christian Church, Clearwater, KS.
The second item was to establish how the assets of the congregation will be distributed upon
its closure. A legacy fund will be created with the Christian Church Foundation. Monies from that Fund will be distributed
to the Ohio Regional Office, the Cleveland Christian Home, Second Harvest, and Hiram Farm (a living and learning community
for autistic adults). The CCMT requests that we all support the Fund by making regular donations or bequests to Christian
Church Foundation with Second Christian Church, Warren, OH Legacy Fund in the memo line.
Within the next ten days we expect to have items identified that members of the congregation
can purchase. Hymnals and pew bibles may be among those items, as well as many items that will be marked around the church.
The items available for purchase will be marked with a numbered sticker, and will be for sale by silent auction. The bid lists
will be kept in the church office. The beginning and ending dates of the auctions will be announced soon.
The Life and Times of Second Christian Church, our memory book, should be available by July
25, and will be presented, one volume per household, at the dinner on that day. Tangential (non-attending, non-shut in) members
may purchase a copy of the book for $25.00.
May 25, 2010 10:00 am
The team met and established dates for the Closing Worship Service and for our last meal together.
The last meal (a catered luncheon) will be held in the Fellowship Hall immediately following Morning Worship on July 25.
Seating is limited in the hall to 150, so invitations will be sent and those who want to attend must
return the enclosed RSVP with the number of persons in the party included. The Closing Worship service will be held
on August 1 at 10:45 am. Special guests and presentations will be made at that time.
The purchaser of the facility has helped us identify items that are not to transfer to them
with the building. Anyone interested in bidding on a particular item may place a bid with the Trustees in writing. Some
things are going to museums and other stay with the building. If the item is available, your bid will be accepted and
recorded. All funds received will go to the Second Christian Church Legacy Fund managed by Christian Church Foundation
to support Ohio and Disciples related missions.
The Memory Book is shaping up nicely. It will be hard bound, and hopefully available
by August 1.
May 18, 2010
The Trustees met with a potential purchaser of the church building and most contents
today and accepted a significant earnest money, non-refundable deposit. In essence, the building is sold. The
closing date is tenetively set for August 31. The purchaser wishes for the details of the purchase to remain
confidential until they disclose them.
Work on our Final Report, a memory book that will be available to each family,
continues. It is rapidly approaching a publication size and date.
The disposition of historical assets is proceeding well. Some items not
placed with museums or the Regional Office will be offered to members of the congregation for a donation to the Second Christian
Church Legacy fund, which will be maintained by Christian Church Foundation, to continue our ministry into the indefinite
future.
May 4
At todays meeting Darwin Collins from Christian Church Foundation and Dr. Bill Edwards, Regional
Minister in Ohio were in attendance and offered some valuable counsel as we make decisions on our way to the end of visible
ministry in this place.
A bid on the church facility has been placed by a local congregation. Negotiations for sale
are to begin immediately.
When/if negotiations are complete, the details will be announced in this space, in worship, and in
the Friendly Visitor.
In the event that negotiations fail, an auctioneer has been selected.
Funds were approved to begin the survey and title preparation process that will be required
for sale in any case.
The glass church model made from glass of the old sanctuary was selected to become a part of the
historic display kept in the Regional Office in Columbus.
The Historic Preservation and Final Worship subcommittees continue their work.
April 20th
The Building Description subcommittee reported that its work was complete and that the first
copy had been given to the Mayor. Others will be distributed to auctioneers and potential buyers.
Sales brought Paul Basinger in for another presentation.
Progress Reporting continues to update the website and bulletin.
History is working with 3 museums to determine what may be preserved.
Budget had no report, but will have one by April 27th.
12 Step Liaison has completed as much of its work as can be completed before a final closing
date is selected.
Last Worship is working mightily on an order of worship, dinner, and Final Report book.
Relocation of Fellowship had no report, but will have one by the first meeting in May.
April 13
Jeff Byce, Auctioneer made a presentation to the team about the services he provides and made
his professional recommendations. Don Yarnell reported that 2 more auctioneers will make similar presentations before
one is recommended.
Don and Kathy Peterson also determined that there appears to be no real estate broker willing
to take a listing on the church building for less than 6 months, making such listing impractical.
The Building Description subcommittee completed its work and put on file a description of the
facility to be distributed to the Mayor of Warren and any other interested parties.
Ila Fenstermaker stated that, under the new church governance by the Trustees, she had not officially
been designated and authorized to pay our obligations. Dale Hatch moved to so authorize, Don Yarnell seconded, resolution
passed.
Pastor Gene Eason requested that he be authorized to spend any of the $500.00 pastor's discretionary
funds on emergency ministry needs that may be brought to his attention.
Dale so moved, Don seconded, motion carried.

Second Christian Church will be ceasing
ministry operations in the fall of this year. The exact date is yet to be determined.
In recent years membership has dwindled and finances have declined to the point that
the costs of maintaining the facilities and staff have become greater then the membership could sustain. On February 28th
the congregation considered its future and decided to intentionally end its ministry. The ministry of the congregation includes
worship, education, spiritual development, hosting seven AA and NA groups, and food ministry.
A team has been established to choose a date for a final thanksgiving worship service
and dispose of the real and other properties of this 103 year old congregation. Many of the items will be offered to the members
along with many of the historic items being placed with the Disciples Historical Society and local societies that may express
interest. It is the hope of the congregation that another Christian congregation will take possession of the facilities and
continue to serve the Lord on the West Side.
